Today our mystery reader was Imad’s mum. The children enjoyed listening to her read the story ‘Something Beginning with Blue’.
We chose to spend our 100% attendance money on a bouncy castle and pizza. The weather was super sunny and we had so much fun bouncing up and down!
Today our Mystery Reader was Ibrahim’s other uncle. He had heard all about how his brother had been into Greenfield to read and wanted to come in himself. He read ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ that the children all found very funny. Once he had finished reading he showed us all photos of when he was a pupil at Greenfield Primary School. They were really interesting for us to see and we discussed how the school and children have changed.
We had lots of fun during Sports Day. In the morning we had a big competition on the playground outside which involved scoring goals, bean bag throwing, javelin throwing and much more! In the afternoon we went in the hall and had a football session with a coach from Hyde United.
This morning we read the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and looked at journeys into space. We then wrote a list of ingredients needed to bake alien cup cakes and walked to Asda to buy them. The children were able to follow a basic recipe to make cakes independently. They used different toppings to decorate the cakes to make them look like aliens and then enjoyed eating them. Yum!
Thank you to all the parents who came to watch our 'Journeys' assembly this morning!
Today we went on a journey to Gulliver’s World. Since we saw Ameerah’s Tapestry post from May half term holidays all the other children in class wished they could also visit Gulliver’s World and today we did! The children enjoyed all the rides and didn’t stop laughing all day. They all agreed they had the ‘best day ever’! Take a look at the photos and videos below.
Today Ibrahim was super excited to find out his uncle, who teaches in Qatar, was our mystery reader whilst back in the UK. Jaheed chose to read ‘How to Grow a Dinosaur’. The children listened very attentively to him read and enjoyed answering his questions about the book. 🦕
On Friday it was so hot that we went on a journey to Hyde park so we could enjoy the sun and learn all about summer. When walking to the park the children all held hands with their partners and walked very sensibly, listening to instructions given on how to stay safe. Once we got there we went on the play park, had a picnic in the band stand and ate ice lollies. We had a great time!
This afternoon we had a party to celebrate Eid. The children enjoyed wearing their party clothes, eating party food and playing games in the hall. It was lots of fun! We have also enjoyed looking at all the photos of the children celebrating Eid with their families at home during the holidays. Thank you to all the parents who shared their Eid photos on Tapestry.
This week our Mystery Reader was Zakwan's mum. The children enjoyed listening to her read the story 'Whatever Next' and answered simple questions about it.
Today we went on a train ride as part of our topic 'Journeys'. The children walked sensibly from school to Hyde station, following instructions well. We then got the train from Hyde to Rose Hill and enjoyed a picnic on the Middlewood Way. After the picnic the children all enjoyed playing games together in the fields.
Ice Cream 🍦
Today was a super sunny day so the children enjoyed eating ice cream outside as treat for all the hard work they have been doing. All children were able to talk about the seasons in relation to the weather and about changes when they noticed that their ice creams were melting in the heat. They suggested sitting in the shade where it is cooler to stop their ice cream melting as quickly.
The children wrote their own tickets for the train trip on Friday. They wrote where the train will leave from, where it is going to, the date and the time. We are all super excited.
Today the Mystery Reader was Maryam’s mum. She chose to read ‘Avocado Baby’. The children enjoyed listening to the story and found it very funny!
The children enjoyed pulling transport objects out of the mystery bag then used their phonics knowledge to write down the name of each on the chalk top table outside.
This week a group of children have been finding QR codes hidden around the outdoor area and have been using their iPad skills to scan them to display high frequency words they are learning. The children enjoyed this so much we are plannig to use QR codes as part of a writing focus for all children next half term.
The Mystery Reader this week was Leon’s mum. She chose to read ‘The Gingerbread Man’. The children enjoyed listening to the story then all got treated to gingerbread men. Yummy!
The Nursery children are really enjoying staying at school all day Thursday and Friday in preparation for full time in Reception. Take a look at the photo below of them enjoying their lunch at school. 😀
This morning we went on a journey to Hyde fire station. We learnt all about how to stay safe in the event of a fire, sat in the fire engine and sprayed water out of the hose. Our teachers even had a go at sliding down the fireman’s pole! Have a look at all our pictures and videos below.
Mystery Reader 📖
Today our Mystery Reader was Ameerah’s mum. She let the children choose which story they wanted to hear from a selection of books. They choose Little Red Riding Hood and really enjoyed listening to Ameerah's mum read it. They also pointed out that they often go to the woods like Little Red Riding Hood but haven't yet come across a wolf!
Little Red Riding Hood
This morning we were surprised to find a basket, red cape, wolf, granny cardigan and Red Riding Hood book altogether in our classroom! We decided that Red Riding Hood must have seen us whilst we were in the woods and followed us back to class. We read the story Little Red Riding Hood then wrote about the journey she went on.
Journey to the Woods
To start our ‘journeys’ topic we went on a walk to the woods. When we got to the woods we found sticks and tied rubber bands round them. As we walked around the woods we added leaves, grass and different flowers that we found during our journey to create a journey stick.
