The Snail and the Whale
Today was our last day of school before the government shutdown. We deicded to introduce the children to the topic 'Air and Water' that they will be learning about when they return back to school or online. The children chose the story 'Snail and the Whale' from a selection of books linked to the new topic then decided they wanted to do some art work in reponse to it. What a lovely last day.
Caterpillar Writing 🐛
The children were excited to find caterpillars in the investigation area this morning. They were keen to find out more about the caterpillars so when prompted they suggested using the ipad or looking in the caterpillar life cycles book. They were curious when looking at photos and videos of the caterpillar life cycle and were able to talk about the changes that occur. Some children then decided to do some writing in response to the caterpillars and the information they had found out about them.
World Book Day
We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day. We all made our own book mark to take home, year 3/4 came to read with us and we enjoyed dressing up as adjectives for the vocabulary parade!
Signs of Spring
The children have shown lots of interest in watching the flowers they planted last year begin to sprout out of the soil. As the buds began to open we decided to bring the flowers inside to paint using water colours.
The children have enjoyed exploring different materials to create characters from the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
The children had lots of fun making pancakes, choosing their favourite topping and exploring the pancake mix. They then wrote instructions in response to making pancakes.
Three Bears Cottage
The children are super excited to start learning in our new role play area linked to the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
Our mystery reader this week was Ariana’s mum. The children enjoyed listening to her read ‘Suzy Sheep’, which was a book she brought from home.
We have been exploring a range of mark making tools then adding facial features to create bear faces. We have also been using a variety of materials to represent the different obstacles the characters must go through in the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.
The children enjoy baking every Monday with Miss Mona. This half term they have been making shortbread biscuits. They taste delicious!
We have been writing facts about different bears, creating our own Bear Hunt story maps and have been painting and labelling pictures of bears.
Bear Hunt 🐻
Today we went on a bear hunt to the deep dark woods. We stomped through thick oozy mud and splish splashed through a cold stream. The children were able to use language from the story e.g. “Look at that long wavy grass”. We listened carefully to sounds around us & heard roaring sounds that led us to a bear! Lucky for us it was only a teddy bear. Phew!
We came back to school to find our classroom had all been changed to fit with our new topic ‘bears’.
