Current work

This half term Jeffers class topic is 'Why is water so precious?'. We work through a connected curriculum so all our learning will be based around this theme.

We will be looking at the History of water about how it we used to get water from a well to how now we get it out of a tap. A great place to visit is 'Portland Basin' in Ashton where the children can visit the old boats and see inside a canal boat. You could also learn the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill went up the Hill.

In ART we will study one of the famous paintings by Claude Monet called 'Water Lilies'. We will pick out one of the watercolour based lilies and use clay to make a waterlily clay pot.

We will focus on water creatures in Science and hope to plan a trip to the woods so we can experience pond dipping.

In PE we will work with the 'Premier Sport Coaches' every Wednesday afternoon to develop our basic skills through dance and games.  As always our learning in this session will link to our topic, so we will be moving like pond creatures and playing games like 'Oceans and islands'.

Why did Jack and Jill go up a hill? What is a pale of water?

This half term we will be reading Lila and the Secret of Rain. We will be learning how to write a diary entry of what happens in the story from Lila's point of view. We will compare the stories to others we read last half term and act out the story to create an emotional timeline.

Following this we will be writing an investigation we complete in Science, a recount from the trip to the woods and an explanation. It's going to be a busy half term for writing!! get those writing hands ready!!

In Maths, we will be learning about counting in 2s, 5s and 10s on scales, dividing by 2s, 5s and 10s, time to the nearest 5 minute interval, fractions, statistics and position and direction. We will also be carrying on with our fluency practice of multiplying, dividing, adding, subtracting and finding fractions. We will be introducing reasoning and problem solving SATS questions too in preparation for the Year 2 SATS in May.

As the Year 2 SATS are fast approaching, here are some Grammar examples for you to look at and attempt.
